Appearing on FoxBusiness on November 26, Maye Musk, Elon Musk’s mother, revealed what she observed behind the scenes, as her son prepared to play an important role in President-elect Donald Trump’s White House.
Immediately after his election victory, Mr. Trump announced the appointment of Elon Musk and former Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aims to cut federal waste.
Musk and Ramaswamy said in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal that they have hired a team of some of the sharpest minds in engineering and law in the United States to work on the project. They hope to cut redundancy in regulations, reduce the federal workforce and save taxpayer money.
Maye Musk said Elon Musk and Donald Trump had a short and pleasant chat and that Elon really respected Trump. She said her son was also very excited about the upcoming mission.
She also warned against public figures and media trying to damage the relationship between Elon Musk and Mr. Trump.
When it comes to how the public describes her son, Maye Musk prefers to credit his entrepreneurial spirit rather than his immense wealth.
“I don’t like the words ‘rich’, ‘billionaire’ or similar words because I think they are demeaning. I think Elon is a genius of the world and people love Elon for that,” she said, not forgetting to express her pride in her son.
When asked by the host if she was surprised by what Elon Musk pursued, she replied: “Every time I am surprised and every time I say ‘don’t do anything else’ but Elon doesn’t listen. And then he makes a big change.”
