Former Dallas Cowboys and tight end Jason Witten’s son, Cooper Witten was offered an athletic scholarship by Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners earlier this week. This was Witten’s first scholarship offer as he is a younger prospect entering his sophomore season as part of the class of 2027.
Although not ranked yet, the fact that the six feet one inch Witten has already been given an SEC offer will undoubtedly start to turn heads across college football. And it does not hurt that his father Jason was one of the greatest NFL tight ends of all time. In fact, since the Sooner’s offered Witten earlier this week, the Missouri Tigers have also now offered the high school star.
What position does Cooper Witten play?
Cooper Witten is being recruited as an athlete and has shown promise for his high school, Liberty Christian in Argyle Texas where he played on varsity as a freshman this past season. Witten appeared on both offense and defense in 2023 for Liberty Christian, but was used primarily as a defensive back.. Witten totaled 82 tackles and two interceptions, including one for a touchdown in 2023.
Witten also blocked three field goals and was named to first team all-district and first team all-state.
Liberty Christian in fact is led by Cooper’s father Jason as the head coach and went 14-0 this season in route to the school’s first state championship.
What other schools may offer Cooper Witten?
Do not be surprised if the Tennessee Volunteers are one of the first schools to be next in on Cooper Witten, given that his father Jason played in Knoxville for the Vols from 2000-2002. With Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel seemingly having the program on the rise, it would make sense for the Vols to be a contender for Cooper.
Does Jason Witten have any other kids being recruited?
In addition to Cooper, Jason’s other son CJ Witten is also being recruited for the class of 2025 as a linebacker out of Liberty Christian. CJ has received five offers from schools at the FCS and FBS levels including Arkansas State, Army and Missouri State.
Regardless of where Cooper and CJ end up, eyes should be wide open on them given the family bloodline they come from and how they have performed so far in their high school careers.
